Each edition of SJDA is guided by contemporary themes that respond to shifts in the industry and society. 2. WADA AWARDS (World Academy of Design Awards)

The World Academy of Design Awards (WADA Awards) is a premier international jewellery design competition that celebrates excellence, creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation in contemporary jewellery design. The awards are frequently hosted in Sharjah and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, positioning WADA at the heart of one of the world’s most influential jewellery and luxury markets.

The term “WADA” is derived from Hindi and Urdu, meaning “a promise”; it embodies the organisation’s core philosophy. WADA represents a promise to the global jewellery industry to unite, organise, and strengthen the industry over time, while actively nurturing the next generation of jewellery designers by providing meaningful platforms, exposure, and growth opportunities.

WADA Awards feature a wide range of categories reflecting both market demand and creative exploration, including:

  • Bridal Jewellery
  • Men’s Jewellery
  • Baby & Kids Jewellery
  • Theme-Based Categories

Themes vary each year, encouraging designers to interpret concepts through cultural storytelling, gemstone innovation, and technical excellence.

3. HRD DESIGN AWARDS

The HRD Design Awards are renowned for their emphasis on innovation, conceptual strength, and contemporary diamond jewellery design. The awards were initiated in 1984 in Belgium as the Antwerp Diamond High Council Awards, with the primary objective of promoting creativity and design excellence within the diamond jewellery sector. The HRD Design Awards have consistently provided young and innovative designers with opportunities to present their work on a world stage.

The HRD Design Awards aim to:

  • Promote avant-garde and trendsetting jewellery design.
  • Encourage designers to translate conceptual ideas into wearable, market-relevant jewellery.
  • Highlight the artistic and technical potential of diamonds and fine gemstones.

While initially focused on diamond jewellery, the competition has evolved to reflect global market trends. Categories have expanded to include diamond Jewellery, coloured Gemstone Jewellery, pearl Jewellery and, accessories and experimental wearable design.

Today, the HRD Design Awards stand as a benchmark competition for contemporary jewellery design. Winning or being shortlisted represents a major professional achievement, providing designers with international visibility, industry credibility, and valuable networking opportunities.

4. AGTA SPECTRUM & CUTTING-EDGE AWARDS

The AGTA Spectrum & Cutting Edge Awards are widely regarded as themost prestigious and respected design competitions in the global colored gemstone and cultured pearl industry. Organised by the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA), these awards recognise exceptional creativity, innovation, and craftsmanship in jewellery design and lapidary artistry, with a strict emphasis on the use of natural-colored gemstones and pearls.

The AGTA Spectrum & Cutting Edge Awards aim to:

  • Promote the use and appreciation of natural colored gemstones and cultured pearls
  • Encourage innovation in jewellery design and lapidary techniques.

Since their inception, the awards have become a benchmark for excellence, influencing trends and setting standards across the industry.

Competition Divisions

1. Spectrum Awards – Jewellery Design

  • The Spectrum Awards focus on finished, wearable jewellery, celebrating design excellence across all occasions.
  • Eligible works include Rings, Earrings, Necklaces and pendants, Bracelets and other wearable jewellery.

2. Cutting Edge Awards – Lapidary Arts

  • The Cutting Edge Awards honour excellence in lapidary artistry, recognising the creative and technical mastery behind gemstones themselves.
  • Eligible works include Faceted gemstones, carved gemstones, and non-wearable lapidary art pieces.

5. INTERNATIONAL JEWELLERY DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARD (IJDE)

The IJDE Awards recognise design excellence, innovation, and contemporary jewellery expression, serving as a distinguished global platform for creative talent. The awards honour originality and forward-thinking design while elevating jewellery as both an art form and a commercially relevant discipline.

The IJDE Awards aim to encourage the fusion of concept, aesthetics, and functionality.

Reflecting the industry’s dynamic nature, the IJDE Awards feature categories spanning diamond, coloured gemstone, gold and platinum, bridal, fashion, and experimental contemporary jewellery. This diversity allows designers to explore both traditional and modern interpretations of jewellery.

6. JJS-IJ DESIGN AWARDS

The JJS–IJ Design Awards are among India’s most respected jewellery design and craftsmanship awards, dedicated to recognising excellence in workmanship, innovation, and design integrity within the Indian gem and jewellery industry.

The publishers of Indian Jeweller (IJ) magazine organise the awards in association with the Gem & Jewellery Information Centre (GJIC), a non-government organisation dedicated to the all-round development and advancement of the gem and jewellery industry and trade in India.

The JJS–IJ Design Awards aim to:

  • Celebrate exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail.
  • Recognise innovation in both traditional and contemporary jewellery.
  • Honour the hard work and precision of manufacturers and retailers.

The JJS–IJ Design Awards are held alongside the Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS), one of India’s largest B2B jewellery exhibitions. This association provides award winners with direct industry recognition and a prestigious platform to showcase design excellence.

With a 15-year legacy, the JJS–IJ Design Awards celebrate Indian jewellery artistry, preserve craftsmanship, and encourage innovation, making them among India’s most influential jewellery design awards.

7. NATIONAL JEWELLERY AWARDS (NJA)

The National Jewellery Awards (NJA), presented annually by the All India Gem & Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), are among India’s most prestigious industry honours, celebrating excellence, creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation in jewellery design and manufacturing. GJC instituted NJA as its flagship initiative to stimulate sustainable growth within India’s domestic gem and jewellery industry.

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) instituted the Artisan Jewellery Design Awards in 2014 as one of India’s most prestigious jewellery design competitions. The awards celebrate excellence in high-end jewellery design and encourage designers to elevate Indian jewellery to global standards by reimagining it as wearable art.

The core objectives of The Artisan Jewellery Design Awards are to:

  • Shift focus from traditional, volume-driven jewellery to artistic, concept-led, and innovative design.
