I'm new to the jewellery industry and not great at drawing — can I still join?
Yes. All courses, including the B.Sc. and design programs, are taught from the fundamentals, so no prior art or industry background is needed. If you want quick, focused skills, the Gemology, Diamond, or Jewellery Professional/Diploma courses are a good start; if you want a full university-recognized degree, the 3-year B.Sc. in Gems & Jewellery is the better fit.
Will I receive a recognized certificate or degree at the end of the course?
Yes. Short courses end with an IIG course-completion certificate that’s widely recognized in the gems and jewellery trade nationally and internationally, and certain programs carry credentials backed by University of Mumbai. The B.Sc. is a full degree program covering design, gemology, diamond grading, manufacturing, and merchandising across six semesters.
Do you really provide 100% placement support — who hires your graduates?
IIG South offers placement assistance to every student, with graduates currently working at brands like Tanishq, Kalyan Jewellers, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas, Bluestone, CaratLane, Bhima, Jos Alukkas, Krishniah Chetty, Navrathan, and Laxmi Diamonds, supported by regular placement drives and interview assistance.
How long do the courses run, and what's the fee?
Duration depends on the program: the B.Sc. Degree is 3 years, Gemology courses run around 12 months, and Diamond and Jewellery courses typically run 6–12 months depending on the specific course chosen. Fees vary by program — book a free counselling session or download the e-brochure for the exact fee structure for your chosen course.
What's the admission process?
It’s a simple 7-step journey: course enquiry, attending a demo session, selecting your program, completing the application, fee payment, admission confirmation, and finally beginning your classes. Fees should be submitted along with the admission form, generally at least a week before your batch starts.
Can I do these courses online, or do I have to attend in person?
Jewellery design courses can be done fully online through IIG’s digital learning portal. Gemology and Diamond courses cover theory online via live sessions, but practical, hands-on training (working with real stones and tools) needs to happen at one of the campuses — that part isn’t optional since it’s central to how these skills are tested in the industry.
How many students are there in each batch?
Classes are kept small for hands-on attention — offline batches run with about 5–6 students, and online batches are capped at 5 students per session.
What makes IIG South different, and where are you located?
IIG’s legacy goes back to 1965, when Mr. Kanti Desai founded the institute that grew into the International Institute of Gemology. IIG South was launched in Bengaluru in 2021 as the educational wing of Laxmi Diamonds, combining that decades-old expertise with a dedicated, well-equipped campus in Richmond Town, Bengaluru, plus industry mentorship, guest lectures, and international study tours.
