Bruce Cleaver, aged 59, who previously held the position of CEO at De Beers from 2016 to early 2023, subsequently serving as co-chairman for approximately one year, has been appointed as the chairman of Gemfields, a reputable colored stone mining company. Concurrently, he will assume the role of non-executive director on the company’s board and chair its nominations committee. Cleaver will succeed Martin Tolcher, who has chaired Gemfields for a five-year term and contributed as a board member for 15 years.
In a released statement, Cleaver emphasized the “clear parallels” between Gemfields and De Beers with regard to ensuring a “consistent and reliable supply.” This perspective resonates with Gemfields’ prior aspiration, articulated by its former CEO, to embody the characteristics of the “De Beers of colored stones.”
Additionally, Gemfields has announced the appointment of two new board members: Simon Scott, previously serving as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of platinum mining company Lonmin, and Kieran Daly, the Managing Director of Assore International Holdings, which holds a 29.2% stake in Gemfields Group.
