GJC Calls for Nationwide Ban on Gems & Jewellery Trade with Turkey and Azerbaijan

In a strong demonstration of national solidarity, the All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) has called upon the entire Indian gems and jewellery industry to sever all trade ties with Turkey and Azerbaijan. The Council’s bold appeal aligns with Operation Sindoor and comes in the wake of rising anti-India sentiment and support for terrorism allegedly expressed by the two nations.

Rajesh Rokde, Chairman of the GJC, stated, “The Indian gem and jewellery sector stands united in support of the nation. It is imperative that our industry sets a strong example by prioritizing the country over commerce. This is not just a business decision—this is a stand for our sovereignty.”

The call to action follows the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which left the country shaken and led to widespread demand for re-evaluation of international partnerships, particularly with nations perceived to have anti-India alignments. Turkey and Azerbaijan, both seen as sympathetic to Pakistan’s geopolitical stance, have come under scrutiny.

Adding to the symbolic nature of the decision, the GJC has also announced a renaming of a category of jewellery commonly known as “Turkish” ornaments—typically large-sized earrings and necklaces inspired by Ottoman designs. These pieces will henceforth be rebranded as “Sindoor” jewellery, in homage to India’s recent anti-terror success under Operation Sindoor.

Avinash Gupta, Vice Chairman of the GJC, further emphasized, “Trade must be built on principle, not just profit. We must ensure our economic engagements do not empower those who oppose our national interest.”

This strategic move is part of a broader nationalistic initiative that also addresses India’s growing economic influence in regions like Turkey through tourism, hospitality, and destination weddings. With this ban, the GJC is urging stakeholders to reevaluate their economic interactions and align business practices with patriotic values.

The decision is being hailed as a landmark moment in the industry, reaffirming the jewellery sector’s commitment not just to craftsmanship and commerce, but to national pride and unity.

As the industry adapts to this shift, the GJC continues to rally support, encouraging manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and exporters to take a united stand for India.
