SRK Achieves World’s First Carbon-Negative Natural Diamonds
In a landmark achievement for the global diamond industry, Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK) has announced the successful creation of carbon-negative natural diamonds. This groundbreaking milestone not only positions SRK as an environmental leader but also reshapes the narrative around the sustainability of natural diamonds.
What Does Carbon-Negative Mean?
The term carbon-negative refers to the process by which an organization removes more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it emits. SRK’s polished diamonds now carry a negative carbon footprint, marking a revolutionary step toward eco-friendly luxury.
According to verified reports, SRK achieved:
- –0.239 kg CO₂e per carat of polished diamond
- A total net carbon reduction of –893 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent (MTCO₂e)
- A reduction of over 112% per carat compared to its earlier footprint.
This means SRK diamonds are not just carbon-neutral, they actively contribute to lowering global carbon emissions.
Certified Net-Zero Facilities
Both of SRK’s state-of-the-art facilities—SRK Empire and SRK House in Surat are now certified Net-Zero Energy buildings. They run entirely on renewable energy, including advanced rooftop solar installations, and have received LEED Platinum certification.
Additionally, SRK is actively aligned with:
- The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
- The United Nations Global Compact
Comprehensive Sustainability Reporting
To further promote transparency, SRK released the second edition of its “Pure Impact Report” on World Decarbonization Day (June 25, 2025). The report highlights its achievements in:
- Renewable energy adoption
- Water recycling
- Waste management
- Ethical sourcing
- Lifecycle carbon reduction
The company has adopted a cradle-to-grave approach, analyzing the entire lifecycle of its diamonds—from sourcing to final sale—to minimize environmental impacts.
Global Recognition
SRK’s sustainability leadership has garnered global accolades. The company recently won the Sustainability Leadership Award at the Jewellery World Awards 2024 held in Hong Kong. This award recognizes companies that have demonstrated excellence in environmental stewardship within the jewelry industry.
Why SRK’s Carbon-Negative Natural Diamonds Matter
This historic achievement proves that natural diamonds can indeed be both luxurious and sustainable. SRK’s success challenges misconceptions surrounding the environmental impact of diamond mining and production, demonstrating that through renewable energy, waste management, and scientific innovation, it is possible to create a positive climate impact in the jewelry sector.
SRK’s achievement of producing the world’s first carbon-negative natural diamonds is not just a win for the company—it’s a giant leap for the entire diamond industry. By setting new sustainability standards, SRK is inspiring other manufacturers to pursue greener pathways, making eco-conscious luxury accessible to a new generation of consumers.
